EDITORIAL, July 1, 2014

Rick Caraviello deserves to be our City Council President.  Mr. Caraviello has earned it, has proven it, and has the temperament and sense of fairness to be given the opportunity.

Medford residents pay a huge price for the 7 members of the Medford City Council, and three of those councilors, Adam Knight, Freddy Dello Russo, Jr., and Paul A. Camuso, have failed to earn their keep.  You see we, the citizens of Medford, are their bosses.  They work for us.    Dello Russo, Knight and Camuso know they are deficient, that’s why the three work in concert to deny civil rights, to interfere with free speech, and to intimidate and bully residents and even fellow councilors, all to provide their lord and master, Mayor Michael J. McGlynn, a sense that they work for him, not us.

Adam Knight called TV3 – Medford Community Cablevision, Inc., a “fiasco.” That’s easy to do after this editor provided the heavy lifting and worked with the City Council to remove the objectionable and unfair individuals from the broken “public access” station.  Those individuals were cruel, abusive and dishonest, and where was Adam Knight while we were fighting the good fight?  Nowhere to be found.  Now all you hear Knight do is vote for King McGlynn and give out congratulatory notes.  For the 28 thousand plus a year he is taking from the residents, it’s a slap in the face.   Knight looks like a goofy jock who snickers at the wrong moments and has nothing of substance to add to the conversation.   Then there’s Freddy Dello Russo Jr., who seems more concerned about promoting the family business than providing the Medford residents with the kind of leadership an elected official is OBLIGATED to provide.  Bored out of his mind, Dello Russo Jr. often slouches in his chair, stares at the ceiling and only speaks up when he wants to interfere in city business.  When the people go up to the podium and he doesn’t think the Mayor will like what they are saying.

Dello Russo Jr., Knight and Camuso play the game.  They aren’t interested in earning their keep, they are in the business of SELF-INTEREST.

Has Mr. Caraviello voted on the wrong side of the fence? Absolutely.

Does Caraviello vote his heart or what he is positioned to vote for by the Camuso gang?  That’s a rhetorical question.   Let’s give Mr. Caraviello a chance to be Council President and remove opportunist Paul A. Camuso from doing more damage to the city of Medford.

_______________________________________________________–

Camuso claims that he has “the votes” yet with 57,000 people in Medford, there is not one city councilor that can say they have a mandate. Same with the Mayor.   Voter apathy is a result of the bullying, intimidation tactics and abuse by Council President Camuso and others in order to squelch free speech so that the thug, Camuso, and his cronies, can have a free ride.  Citizens remember how tightly aligned Camuso was with the bad individuals at TV3.  Camuso can’t erase that from his record.  Camuso not only enjoyed airtime from his pals at TV3, he never once stepped in to help out fellow councilors maliciously attacked and defamed by MCC TV3.

To see an elected official behave in such a boorish fashion, as Camuso does, begs for further information.  But Camuso’s biography is suspiciously thin.    Was he an honor student or a juvenile delinquent?  Was he an honest student or ever locked up in a jail cell or a psych ward?   Shouldn’t residents know SOMETHING about Camuso’s past? Of course they should.  Residents need to have answers, and only a coward seizing the scepter of power dishonestly would shut people off in mid-sentence when they ask pertinent questions about someone in control of the city budget, taxi licenses, the painting of crosswalks, and everything else that goes into Medford’s progress.   The stagnation of Medford can be blamed on Camuso and Mike McGlynn.  Their poor choices, lack of leadership and downright stupid statements in public (see McGlynn’s excuses to the Transcript and Hank Phillipi Ryan if you want to see a master politician losing his mojo) just the tip of the iceberg.  McGlynn has peaked and he’s making more errors now – arguably – than he’s ever made in his history.  McGlynn is losing it, and losing credibility at the same time.

Camuso’s dishonesty is on display on a weekly basis (except for summer when the individual with the worst attendance record at the council gets even more time off.)   McGlynn has to think about throwing Camuso overboard, that’s what happens when the you-know-what starts hitting the fan.  McGlynn has been ruthless in the past, throwing both his Budget Director and his City Solicitor to the wolves.  Oh, McGlynn will pay them well (with your money and mine) but when it comes to his reputation, McGlynn will throw someone under the bus as soon as the words “Robert Covelle” leave your lips.  Covelle thought his job was safe and that he was staying.  Not so fast.  When McGlynn saw the writing on the wall, it was Bocce with Bobby time no more on company time, speaking facetiously, of course.

After Gene McGillicuddy was removed, a smart person said “You got rid of Uncle Gene, you’ll get rid of Frank Pilleri.”  Truer words were never spoken. We got rid of Bob Maiocco and Bob Covelle as well.  Now, it’s nearly impossible to remove the Mayor’s uncle, the Mayor’s lieutenant (Maiocco) and the Mayor’s boy (Bob Covelle.) Getting rid of Frank Pilleri was something citizens never thought would happen. That all those individuals have been removed, legally, in a civil manner, and given that they were all far more entrenched than Camuso, means that the easiest person to remove out of the five names listed here, including Camuso, IS Camuso.  He’s the easy one. We’ve already got the tough stuff out of the way.   Arthur Alan Deluca of TV3 told a sports host that he considered me a “deadly” opponent.  You won’t hear Deluca say that publicly, but the math is easy to do: the cronies were booted out of TV3, and we’re fighting harder than ever for a new station and for Charter Review, and we are getting traction.

Paul Camuso can’t stay.  He’s a bad person with a bad attitude.  Camuso lacks the temperament and the knowledge to be Council President.  He’s a stumbling, bumbling buffoon who wormed his way in to the position he currently holds via deceptive bullying and connections to the inner circle.   Camuso is bad for the residents of Medford.  He’s not a very nice person and that smile is like the smile of a snake.

Now, Camuso can open the books on himself, come clean, and tell us if he was a boy scout or “a little bastard” as one source noted, allegations of Camuso phoning up restaurants and pizza parlors and sending food to addresses without paying for it. These are allegations, but the elected official, the public figure, needs to address the allegations or step down.  And if the allegations are true, Camuso must step down. Medford doesn’t need a jackass for a City Council president, and Camuso’s public behavior has been ugly, rude and borderline criminal – if not criminal – when he came at me at a high speed after a council meeting blasting his horn (an offense right there, see the MGL screeching tires law) and then flying through a Do Not Enter sign behind City Hall to threaten, bully and intimidate me.

That’s how Camuso operates. Given Camuso’s bad behavior silencing people at the council or flipping out after a council meeting, or wasting the time of the Medford Police Department in an attempt to bully residents, the bottom line is this: Paul A. Camuso must go.   If he doesn’t want to discuss his past and be honest, he must go.  If he DOES discuss his past and if the allegations are true, Camuso must be removed.  It becomes a public safety issue.

Paul A. Camuso is a hot head.  He has a temper and has shown in public that he cannot control himself.  Is that the kind of person who should be in such a powerful position in a city of 57,000 people?

Remove Paul A. Camuso and we get a new Council President in Caraviello and a new City Councilor in Mark Crowley.  You watch things improve with two professionals running the show and the biggest jerk the city council has ever seen removed for insubordination.  Camuso is insubordinate to the residents who foot the bill.   We’ve watched his stupidity and bad behavior for years.   Just because a family member is a good at getting people elected and just because McGlynn knows he can rely on a Camuso vote is no reason for the citizens to put up with this garbage.  And know this: there is a lot about Camuso that I’m not saying.  In this high stakes and critical poker game, we’re going to just let some of the information out right now.  We’re keeping some information in reserve.

The time for Camuso to step down is now.  It is summer.  That insolent, offensive and selfish individual is bad for the city of Medford.   Camuso is lining his pocketbook at your expense and giving you nothing of substance in return.  YOU matter, your city matters, and there is talent out there that can improve Medford, and get involved in the hard work it will take to repair all the damage that Camuso has inflicted on our city.
